Livestock marking
Marking of livestock with RFID tags is applied both for farm animals and for pets. The tags are usually glass implants or ear marks. Such marking makes the animals easily recognizable and prevents thefts and losses. For farm animals, RFID marking also allows tracking the “history” of the animal: when and where it was born, grown, treated for diseases and so on. Such information is essential for proper breeding and milk and meat processing (where applicable). An interesting application is the marking of wild animals for the purpose of tracing the movement, migration and life cycle. Passive tags are usually used in such applications.
